The annual 'Shutki Mela' in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, famous for buying and selling dried fish, has abolished the barter system this year due to rising product prices. The tradition, which sees traders selling dried fish in exchange for goods and later for cash, has been discarded as unprofitable. This has caused difficulties for low-income individuals who relied on the barter system. The fair, which saw around 200 shops and estimated sales of Tk1-1.5 lakh per shop, also sold traditional handicrafts, clay toys, and local delicacies.
