Researchers at Crea have used Tea, a product of Assisted Evolution Technologies, to develop basil plants resistant to basil blight, a fungus that has posed a significant problem for farmers since its arrival in Italy in 2003. This breakthrough involves disabling a gene involved in the disease's development, rendering the basil plants immune. However, the introduction of these resistant plants is currently blocked by European and national GMO legislation, despite the potential to reduce the need for fungicidal pesticides.
