The President of the Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey, Şemsi Bayraktar, has expressed concern over the marketing difficulties and low prices faced by farmers for products such as peppers, squash, watermelon, pistachios, almonds, and tomatoes. He highlighted the challenges farmers face due to increasing production costs and the impact of climate change, despite producing under adverse conditions. Bayraktar pointed out that the current market situation is leading to low producer prices and higher consumer prices, potentially driving farmers to abandon production. He called for improvements in the marketing system and organization of the agricultural sector to address product losses and benefit producers and consumers.
