The Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) is urging beef farmers to resist attempts by meat factories to lower prices, arguing that the market requires higher prices due to increased demand and predicted reduction in beef cattle supplies. The IFA's Livestock Committee chair, Brendan Golden, insists that factories are trying to control the market by reducing throughput and offers, but that farmers should demand better. Despite some factories offering lower quotes, many are still paying 10c/kg above quotes to secure enough cattle, indicating that trade may remain steady if more cattle are secured at the lower rate.
