Beekeepers in Guatemala are facing challenges such as the climate crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, and threats to their business, including the recent poisoning of a million bees. The pandemic has resulted in a 27% decrease in beekeeping production. Despite these challenges, Guatemala, with 5,012 apiaries and 3,335 beekeepers, continues to produce honey, primarily for export to the European Union. The country relies on bees for pollination and has a diverse bee population, including the endemic "melipona beecheii", whose honeycombs have a unique conical shape. The survival of these bees depends on human consciousness and efforts to protect forests and honeycombs.
