Between 2005 and 2020, the number of tomato growers in Flanders has decreased by 68%, falling from 546 to 174. Stefaan Sintobin, an MP from Vlaams Belang, has raised concerns about the decline in Flemish agricultural businesses and criticized the nitrogen framework, a package of measures aimed at reducing nitrogen emissions, stating it could limit prospects for young farmers and be detrimental to agriculture.
