The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has initiated a plan to extend the total allowable catch (TAC) system to all coastal fisheries, including those under 10 tons. This plan introduces a multi-year TAC for mackerel and phases the TAC application into three stages: preparation, practice, and settlement, to support coastal fishermen. The TAC will now encompass 15 fish species and 17 industries, totaling 642,790 tons. Notable expansions include the entire West Sea for blue crabs and larger areas for red snow crabs in the East Sea. The objective is to create a sustainable fishing environment and reduce unnecessary regulations.
