In 2023, Morocco became the fifth-largest supplier of fresh blueberries to Southeast Asian countries, with exports increasing by 3.3 times since 2019. The country supplied 1,500 tons of blueberries to the region in 2023, with Hong Kong being the primary market. However, Hong Kong's imports have decreased due to a poor harvest in Peru and economic challenges. China has also started exporting more blueberries to Southeast Asia, competing with Moroccan supplies. To maintain its leading position in the global blueberry export market, Morocco is urged to target the premium segment in Southeast Asia, where economic growth is expected to be the second fastest in the world, excluding Hong Kong.
