The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) has introduced the National Bovine Traceability Plan (PNIB), which will be mandatory for all Brazilian cattle and buffalo by 2032. The plan aims to track the history, location, and movement of each animal using an individual identification system. Development of the plan will start in 2025, with a full implementation expected by 2032, divided into four stages. The system will utilize international traceability standards and will be supported by a central database and state agricultural health agencies. This initiative is expected to modernize the sector, bolster international market confidence, and enable swift responses to health emergencies.
