UK Environment, Food and Rural Development Minister, Terese Coffey, has suggested that the public consider eating rutabagas as a replacement for tomatoes and lettuce due to current shortages. She indicated that these shortages, which are expected to last between two to four weeks, are attributed to bad weather in southern Spain and northern Africa, labor shortages, high inflation, supply chain disruptions, and the UK's exit from the European Union. As a result, four large retail chains in the UK have imposed restrictions on the sale of tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers.
