Brussels seeks to agree on 2026 fishing with a plan for the Mediterranean

The European Union (EU) Fisheries Ministers begin a meeting in Brussels this Thursday at which they must agree on the fishing opportunities for the year 2026 and for which the European Commission (EC) has presented a proposal for catches in the Mediterranean that Spain considers "unacceptable," according to diplomatic sources. In the meeting, which could extend until Friday and even Saturday, the Fisheries Ministers of the Twenty-Seven have to agree on the catches for 2026 in both the EU waters of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, but it is in that sea that also bathes the coasts of France and Italy where Spain sees the main difficulties in reaching an agreement, as already happened last year.
