Consumer prices in June rose by 2.9% compared to the previous year, with food prices increasing by 7.8%. The price of certain foods such as sausages, potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fruits increased by up to 20.5%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices also rose by 6.7%, while fuel prices increased by 9.3% due to a rise in oil prices. The weakening forint and supply chain issues, including the swine fever in China, have contributed to the price increase. GKI Economic Research predicts that the average food price growth will be around 8% this year, but it may fall to 4% next year. Inflation is expected to be around 3% by the end of 2020.
