The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has reported a case of pear fire, a serious disease for apple and pear cultivation, in winter medlar in a plant sphere. Despite hot and long summer conditions, the authority has not received reports of the disease in orchards this year. They have conducted mapping and preventive clearing of host plants through a collaboration with Nibio. The authority has also imposed strict regulations on imported plant material to prevent the disease. However, an inspection revealed that many importers lack knowledge about plant health and reception control requirements.
