Bulgaria is set to request a suspension of egg imports from Ukraine at the upcoming EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries meeting on September 23 in Brussels. The country's Agriculture and Food Minister, Dr. Georgi Takhov, has asked the European Commission to activate protective measures for Bulgarian egg producers due to market problems caused by increased imports from Ukraine. Despite a protective mechanism already in place, Bulgarian poultry farmers are seeking further protection against imports. The European Commission will assess the market situation of the relevant products within four months to determine if protective measures are necessary. The meeting will also focus on the overall situation of agricultural markets due to the war in Ukraine, the implementation of European countries' Strategic Plans in agriculture, and other related issues.
