Cambodian longan exports to China surge, but shipping costs remain high

According to data from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, in the first eight months of 2023, Cambodia’s exports of fresh longan to China reached 8,118 tons, a year-on-year increase of more than 3,720%. Im Rachna, spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, said recently that the substantial growth comes from Chinese consumers’ recognition of the quality of Cambodian fruits. In August alone, Cambodia exported 3,250 tons of fresh longans to China. Cambodian longans attach great importance to online platforms when selling them. It has been promoted on various domestic online platforms including Alibaba. The ministry is currently supporting farmers to strengthen the cultivation of Pailin longan to ensure that its quality meets the sanitary and phytosanitary standards required by China.
