Canada has concluded its participation in Operation North Pacific Guard, a joint international law enforcement operation aimed at enforcing fisheries laws in the North Pacific High Seas. Conducted in collaboration with the United States, Korea, and Japan, the operation saw Canadian fishery officers on board the US Coast Guard Cutter Bertholf and a Fisheries and Oceans Canada aircraft based in Japan. The operation led to the detection of 42 violations, including the use of prohibited gear and illegal retention of salmon, with 25 violations being serious. Additionally, the operation identified active shark finning and garbage dumping in the Pacific. This operation is part of Canada's broader efforts to address illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and to protect Canadian livelihoods and marine ecosystems.
