The Canadian ministry of agriculture and agri-food is allocating up to $1,627,270 to the Canadian Angus Association for research on genetics traits for beef and dairy cattle. The association, in partnership with Holstein Canada, will use the funding to develop new genetic evaluation tools, including AI, machine learning, and computer vision systems, to monitor traits that enhance farmer profitability and knowledge of genetic selection. The goal is to improve health and welfare practices, environmental performance, and producer profitability in the cattle industry. The Canadian Angus Association plans to use the federal funding to invest in AI and camera technology to measure traits for Angus and Holstein cattle, impacting producer profitability, animal health and welfare, and carcass quality.
