Vietnam's cassava and cassava product exports in 2020 saw a 9% increase in volume and a 2.4% increase in value, totaling 2.8 million tons and 989 million USD respectively. The Chinese market absorbed 96% of these exports, with a significant surge in cassava chip imports due to high world corn prices. In January 2021, exports experienced a 23% increase compared to the previous month, with the average export price decreasing slightly. Mainland China imported nearly all of Vietnam's cassava exports, maintaining a 96% market share. Vietnam's rank as the second largest supplier of cassava chips to China in 2020, with a 12.25% market share, indicates a successful strategy in targeting the Chinese market despite competition from Thailand and other countries. The growth in Vietnam's cassava exports is attributed to factors like the recovery of China's pig industry and adverse weather conditions in corn supply regions, and the trend is expected to persist.
