Vietnam has seen a consistent monthly increase in meat imports, with a 32.1% rise in volume and a 28.6% increase in value in May compared to the same period in 2023. Over the past five months, the country has imported 304,850 tons of meat, valued at 597 million USD. The main suppliers are India, the US, Russia, Poland, and Brazil. The price per kilogram of imported meat has decreased by 2% from last year, making it more appealing despite concerns about quality and fair competition with domestic products. The Vietnam Livestock Association has called for stricter border controls on imports to ensure consumer health and protect the local livestock industry.
