Chinese whitefish processors and global exporters of pangasius are capitalizing on the growing demand for these products in China, driven by the expansion of mass-market seafood restaurant chains and the growth of e-commerce. Pangasius is becoming increasingly popular in China due to its lower price compared to domestically produced freshwater fish. However, this trend has negatively impacted domestic tilapia producers. Despite a decrease in Vietnamese pangasius imports to China, the figure is still higher than China's total tilapia exports. China's seafood output in 2024 is expected to increase due to expanded aquaculture area and production efficiency.
