Switzerland: Cheese exports increasing in 2020

Despite increased difficulties by COVID-19, Swiss cheese exports increased in volume by 1.6% in 2020 compared to the previous year. In value, they even increased by + 3.9%. In total, 77,124 t of Swiss cheese (+ 1,246 t) for a value of 693.8 million francs were exported, indicates a joint press release from Switzerland Cheese Marketing SA and TSM Fiduciaire Sàrl, relayed by the Agir agency, on February 2, 2021 (photo illustration Agri). However, the evolution varies from one product category to another. Over the same period, cheese imports increased by 11.7% (+ 7'529 t), or a total of 71'664 t, corresponding to a value of CHF 452.5 million or a growth of only +4, 2%. The trade balance in value closed up + 2.9% compared to 2019, at +240.3 million Swiss francs.
