China has approved the import of fresh avocados from Zimbabwe, adding the country to the list of main African avocado producers already granted access. In addition to avocados, Zimbabwe can also export certain citrus fruits to China. The country aims to expand its avocado cultivation area fivefold by 2030. However, avocados must be fumigated with methyl bromide and meet strict phytosanitary requirements, including the absence of 14 quarantine pests. During the first two years of export, 2% of the avocados will be randomly sampled for pest checks, which may be reduced to 1% if no pest issues are found.
