President Tsai Ing-wen has criticized China's unjustified bans on imports of sugar apples, pineapples, and grouper from Taiwan as a violation of free trade principles. This criticism comes in the wake of China's recent ban on grouper fish imports from Taiwan due to the discovery of banned chemicals. In response, Taiwan is strategizing to diversify its markets and increase exports to the United States, New Zealand, Canada, and the European Union. The government is also investing in a cold chain logistics system to improve the quality of its grouper products. The government perceives these bans as politically motivated and harmful to global trade.
