Rice serves as a fundamental dietary staple worldwide, deeply embedded in various cultural cuisines and offering numerous health benefits. In Peru, rice is a crucial part of the diet, with an average consumption of 54 kilograms per person annually. However, Brazil leads in rice consumption in South America, with 82% of its population consuming it regularly and being one of the largest rice producers, especially targeting the Peruvian market. Other countries like Spain and Argentina also show high consumption rates. On a global scale, China is the top consumer of rice, with an intake of approximately 154 million tons in the 2022/2023 period, making it the dominant force in the global rice market, both as the largest importer and alongside India as the largest exporter.
