China has imported its first batch of mutton from Madagascar, marking the country's first meat imports from Africa. The 1,000-kilogram shipment was received at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and transported to Changsha, where it will be sold in restaurants and supermarkets. The meat was produced by a Madagascar-based company, partly owned by a Chinese seed company, and aims to export 20,000 tons of mutton to China annually. The deal was signed during the third China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo last year.
