China's sugar production in its top region, Guangxi, is projected to drop by 12% to 5.4 million tonnes in the 2022/2023 season, marking the lowest output in six years, according to Green Pool Commodities. This is due to decreased cane supply and damage from drought. The country's overall production is now expected to be 9.17 million tonnes, down from the previous forecast of 9.52 million tonnes. This comes as global prices rise due to anticipated lower production in Thailand and India. China, the world's second-largest sugar consumer, is experiencing high global prices which are reducing import demand.
