Chinese onions are now more popular than Indian and Myanmar varieties in Bangladesh, particularly in the wholesale markets of Khatunganj, Asadganj, and Chaktai in Chattogram. The attractive price of Chinese onions has led to an increase in purchases by city residents, with consignments continuously being received in Khatunganj through Chattogram port. Chinese onions are larger in size and sold at prices ranging from Tk50-55, while the availability of Indian onions is decreasing, leading to rising prices and impacting the region's overall onion trade.
