CHP Bursa Deputy Orhan Sarıbal criticized the government for not being able to meet the country's sugar needs and stated that imports are being made. He argued that the solution to the problems experienced is "urgent early elections". Sarıbal stated that 33 sugar factories have been established since the foundation of the Republic, all but 15 of them were sold through privatization. He also explained that input costs such as diesel, labor, fertilizer, and water have increased, leading to a loss for farmers. Sarıbal argued that the government is alienating farmers from production by putting them in debt and claimed that 303 thousand tons of sugar were imported last year.
