The World Citrus Organization (WCO) has predicted a 12% increase in Italy's citrus production for the 2020-21 season, while the Northern hemisphere is expected to see a slight decrease of 1.27% due to drought. The Southern hemisphere's production is estimated to drop by 3% due to the pandemic. European countries, excluding a few, are projected to grow by 10%, with Italy, Spain, and Greece specifically expecting significant growth in production. The production distribution shows oranges as the leading citrus fruit, but there has been a shift towards softer citrus like mandarins and clementines, with lemons also showing positive trends. The WCO remains optimistic about consumption due to the growing demand for healthy food options, high in vitamin C.
