Climate favors strawberry crop in Rio Grande do Sul

Strawberry production is progressing differently in the regions monitored by Emater/RS-Ascar, according to the Conjunctural Report released this Thursday (1). In Caxias do Sul, the predominance of sunny days and the high thermal amplitude recorded in the last two weeks favored the development of the crops and the maturation of the fruits. The result was an improvement in the caliber, color, and flavor of the production. In Gramado, the health of the strawberry plants remains under control in the current crop. There were isolated records of fungal diseases and pests during periods of greater climatic instability, with the occurrence of gray mold in crops located on the side benches of the greenhouses. The intensification of tourist flow during the Christmas period sustained the prices, which range between R$ 20.00 and R$ 35.00 per kilo for fresh fruit and between R$ 10.00 and R$ 15.00 per kilo for the frozen product.
