Coamo, the largest agricultural cooperative in Latin America, has confirmed that it will invest R$ 3 billion in the construction of a port terminal in Itapoá, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina. The announcement was made in a meeting between executives of the cooperative and the governor of the State, Jorginho Mello (PL), held earlier this week. The operation is scheduled to begin in 2030, confirmed the cooperative from Campo Mourão, in northern Paraná, in a statement. The project will occupy 43 hectares and will feature three docking berths, with an estimated capacity of 11 million tons per year. According to the government of Santa Catarina, the terminal will handle bulk agricultural products, liquid fuels, fertilizers, and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). The estimate is for 2,000 job openings during the construction phase and 1,000 permanent positions after the start of operations.
