Coconut pulp producers in Armería, Colombia, are experiencing a profitable season due to a sudden price increase to 28 or 29 pesos per kilo, a 30% rise from the previous 23 or 24 pesos. This unexpected change, which happened on May 27, has surprised the producers but is welcomed as it provides a good margin for both the producers and the grocers. The price increase is also beneficial for coco-growers as it leads to higher income from the sale of their raw material. However, the producers face a challenge of insufficient raw material supply, as many coconut farmers in the area focus on selling water instead of the coconut byproduct. Therefore, they plan to continue sourcing part of the coconut ball needed from Guerrero, a neighboring state.
