Confirmed in Girona the first case in Spain of contagious nodular dermatosis in cows

The Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat de Catalunya confirmed, on October 4, a case of contagious nodular dermatosis (DNC) in a cattle farm in the Alt Empordà region (Girona), the first to be located in Spain after the presence of the disease was confirmed in France and Italy. The Generalitat reported that it had initiated the slaughter of 123 calves from the cattle farm. In addition, a 20-kilometer safety perimeter has been established for 28 days—provided no new cases are detected—and a 30-kilometer surveillance zone has been set up starting from the boundary of that restricted area. Surveillance within the 50 kilometers around the focus that sum both perimeters will be maintained for 45 days if there are no new cases. These measures are complemented by the prohibition of any movement of animals and systematic clinical checks.
