The government has spread safety culture among fishermen and strengthened systems and education. During the state audit of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries last year, the government set a goal to reduce the scale of casualties from fishing vessel accidents, which averaged 91 people per year in the past five years (2017-2021), by 30% to 64 people by 2026 when establishing the first basic plan for safe fishing operations (2022-2026). However, it was pointed out that measures to deal with fishing vessel accidents have been neglected as 118 deaths and missing persons occurred in 2024, increasing by 30% contrary to the goal. Members of the legislative body stated that the government's indifference on the sea, unlike on land, is increasing the damage to fishermen, putting them in poor conditions.
