The Cusco region in Peru has reached the eradication stage of the fruit fly, with low population levels that do not pose a risk to the regional fruit and vegetable sector. The National Agrarian Health Service implemented strategic actions to reduce the incidence of the pest, including installing official traps to monitor its presence. The eradication of the fruit flies would benefit over 25,000 producers and save them approximately S/1,200 per hectare annually, but it is important for all actors in fruit production to commit to cultural control tasks for long-term sustainability.
