The Indian Dairy Association (IDA) has appealed to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for a reduction in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on dietary items such as butter, ghee, and paneer from 12% to 0%. They also sought government support to sell skimmed milk powder (SMP) stocks and equal rights for landless animal farmers. The IDA's president, GS Rajorhia, pointed out that the livestock sector has become a significant source of revenue, especially for landless and marginal farmers. The dairy sector has also asked for fair asset allocation and solutions to the long-standing issue of income tax on dairy farmers.
