The global benchmark –prepared by the OECD– for measuring the amount of agricultural subsidies on total rural income (Producer Support Estimate or PSE) was -11.9% on average in Argentina in the period between 2022 and 2024. That is, the indicator prepared by the OECD originally for developed nations, when applied in disruptive countries –such as Argentina– generates a negative result because public policies, instead of supporting agriculture, harm it through actions that promote an appropriation of the sector's capital. Therefore, the "Producer Support Estimator" in the Argentine case should be called the "Producer Extraction Estimator," although it would be too confusing to make such a clarification. There is another nation that in 2022/2024 also registered a negative PSE of -11.9%.
