Nigeria is facing a severe shortage of tomatoes and peppers, with prices soaring and production being threatened by the Tuta Absoluta pest and disease. Despite increased production over the years, the demand gap remains due to these challenges. The National Horticultural Research Institute has recommended the use of sustainable pest management practices and introduced new tomato seeds with improved characteristics. However, the success of these measures depends on their inclusion in the National Tomato Policy and their accessibility to farmers.
