The South Korean government aims to revitalize the goat industry by developing and distributing a new breed called the 'Korean Black Goat' by 2030. Announced by the National Institute of Animal Science, this initiative addresses issues like promiscuous breeding and aims to create a breed that combines the strengths of native black goats and Boer breeds. The goat industry has seen significant growth, with production tripling from 2018 to 2021. The government will invest 16 billion won in research to tackle challenges such as lack of standardized breeding, high mortality rates, and the absence of a grading system for goat meat.
