REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — DPR Commission IV member Johan Rosihan urged the government to take concrete steps in response to the discovery of radioactive substance Cesium-137 (Cs-137) in Indonesian frozen shrimp products. According to him, this case not only has the potential to trigger a suspension of shrimp export trade but also could damage global market confidence in the safety of Indonesian seafood.
“I see this as a serious warning signal for the credibility of our national seafood,” said the PKS politician in Jakarta on Friday (3/10/2025).
Johan emphasized that the government must take real efforts and must not compromise on consumer safety or the integrity of the national export system. “I urge the government, especially the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency, to conduct a thorough and transparent scientific investigation of the production chain, from upstream to downstream, to ascertain the source of contamination and the mitigation steps,” said Johan, a legislator from Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
