The Ministry of Agriculture in Russia is planning to create a state intervention fund to purchase and store 500,000 tons of sugar in the fall to stabilize the market price. The government has been proposed this plan by Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev. The ministry is also planning to increase the sowing of sugar beets and expects to harvest 40-44 million tons of beets this season. The ministry also intends to propose creating grain reserves in the intervention fund, increasing the current reserves of just over 100 thousand tons to about 3 million tons.
