A new organization, Productores de Oégano y Especies Aromáticas de Mezquitic, has been formed in Jalisco, Mexico, to oversee the oregano production chain in the Northern region. The goal is to domesticate oregano, a plant abundant in the region and highly demanded in the gastronomy, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries, for sustainable use and transparent market practices. The organization aims to extend the oregano sales period, obtain certification for oregano germplasm, and reactivate the mill for essential oil production. The extension agent also emphasized the need for producer organization to avoid speculation and increase the annual distribution of oregano from 200-300 tons to 600 tons. Mexico is a significant player in the global oregano export market.
