The head of the Istanbul Water and Beverage Sellers Association, Ahmad Turan Akaya, has accused foreign brands of disregarding domestic pricing regulations and setting their own prices for water. He stated that local sellers adhere to tariffs, while those bringing water from other regions, such as Bursa and Sakarya, do not. Despite the absence of significant increases in fuel, water, or currency exchange rates, the price of water has risen twice in the last six months in some areas of Istanbul. Mehmet Bulent Deniz, the head of the Federation of Consumers Union, has labeled the price hike as unjustified and has called for an investigation. Both Akaya and Deniz have urged the Ministry of Commerce to curb price manipulation. The Turkish bottled water market is projected to grow by 1.6% in 2023, reaching a total volume of 10.8 billion liters and generating revenue of 31.1 billion liras.
