Egypt becomes the largest supplier of sweet potatoes to the most premium region of Europe - Scandinavia

In the 2022/23 season (July-June), for the first time in history, Egypt became the largest supplier of sweet potatoes to Scandinavia, one of the most premium consumer markets in the world, EastFruit reports. Last season, Egyptian exporters were able to provide about a third of all sweet potato imports in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. In total, from July 2022 to June 2023, Egypt supplied 3.7 thousand tons of sweet potatoes to the markets of Denmark, Norway and Sweden, i.e. almost twice as much as the previous season. Moreover, since the 2017/18 season, supplies of Egyptian sweet potatoes to Scandinavia have increased 51 times, at least doubling every year! Moreover, in the 2022/23 season, Egypt came out on top in the ranking of sweet potato suppliers to this market. At the same time, the Netherlands, the USA, and Spain exported the smallest volume of sweet potatoes to Scandinavia over the past six seasons: 3.3 thousand tons, 1.5 thousand tons and 820 tons, respectively.
