Egyptian sweet potatoes dominate Scandinavian market

Egypt became the largest supplier of sweet potatoes to Scandinavia, one of the world's most premium consumer markets, for the first time in history in the 2022/23 season (July-June), EastFruit said. Egyptian exporters were able to supply about a third of all sweet potato imports to Denmark, Sweden and Norway last season. Egypt supplied a total of 3,700 tons of sweet potatoes to the markets of Denmark, Norway and Sweden from July 2022 to June 2023, almost twice as much as the previous season. Furthermore, shipments of Egyptian sweet potatoes to Scandinavia have increased 51 times since 2017/18, doubling at least annually. Moreover, Egypt ranked first among sweet potato suppliers to this market in the 2022/23 season.
