The Murcia Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (Imida) has driven the implementation of a new biosecurity greenhouse that will allow the creation of the first national collection of certified vine rootstocks. This is a unique infrastructure in Spain, intended to conserve mother plants and to supply high sanitary quality plant material to the wine sector. The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Sara Rubira, highlighted that "rootstocks are essential for the profitability, quality, and sustainability of the vineyard, as they influence the life span of the plant, its adaptation to the soil, its resistance to diseases, and the quality of the grape." In this regard, she emphasized that this new greenhouse will allow guaranteeing healthy and certified material to farmers, adapted to current challenges such as climate change, water stress, or high temperatures.
