The year 2022 brought challenges to the Brazilian milk chain, including the economic fallout from the Russia-Ukraine conflict, leading to inflation and volatility in milk production costs. This resulted in a decrease in dairy product consumption due to high prices. However, by the end of the year, wholesale prices had significantly dropped, and milk production costs were decreasing. Dairy imports rose by 21.5% compared to 2021, while exports fell by 11.4% in the same period. The dairy sector experienced a decline in production, with a estimated 4.4% decrease in formal production for 2022. Despite these challenges, there was an 11% increase in food sales in 2022 compared to the previous year, aided by the expansion of Brazil Aid and the World Cup. The dairy sector is expected to face trends towards healthiness, sustainability, and influenceability in the coming year.
