Seogwipo City in South Korea has completed a new project to install seaweed farming facilities in coastal fishing grounds, spending 300 million won on a 5-hectare seaweed farming infrastructure at the Tosan fishing ground. The initiative aims to restore the environmental ecosystem, create habitats for aquatic life, and provide additional income for fishermen through mass farming and selling seaweed. The first harvest is expected in February, with an estimated yield of around 40 tons and 7,000 kg when dried. The city plans to identify more suitable fishing grounds for seaweed farming to support fishing villages as a new source of income.
