The ethanol market in Brazil closed the last week of January with divergent results between the two main types of the biofuel. According to data from the Cepea/Esalq Indicator, from USP, hydrated ethanol registered a slight increase, while anhydrous ethanol showed a drop in quotations. Between January 26 and 30, hydrated ethanol—used in flex, hybrid, or alcohol-only vehicles—was traded by mills at R$ 3.0885 per liter, a slight increase of 0.05% from the previous week, when the average price was R$ 3.0871. On the other hand, anhydrous ethanol, which is mixed with gasoline, ended the period with a decline of 1.85%, with the liter traded at R$ 3.4722, down from R$ 3.5377 practiced in the week of January 19 to 23. The Paulínia Daily Indicator also pointed to a slight advance in the quotations of hydrated ethanol on Friday, January 30.
