The European Union's crop monitoring service, MARS, has revised its forecasts for EU crops, reducing the yield expectations for soft wheat and rapeseed due to adverse conditions in western Europe, while increasing the projections for barley and maize, largely due to favorable conditions in Spain and Portugal. The average soft wheat yield has been cut to 5.92 metric tonnes per hectare from 5.93 t/ha, and the 2024 rapeseed yield forecast has been lowered to 3.21 t/ha from 3.26 t/ha. The overall EU yield for barley has been raised to 5.13 t/ha, and the forecast EU grain maize yield has been increased to 7.59 t/ha. However, the yield forecast for sugar beet has been slightly decreased from 75.5 t/ha to 75.4 t/ha. The report highlights the impact of harsh weather conditions, including drought and heavy rain, on crop yields across Europe and Russia.
